Up for sale is a Fine Condition, clean Complete Cylinder / Yoke / Extractor Assembly that originated from a well cared-for Smith & Wesson Model 66-2 Snub-Nosed revolver chambered in. 357 Magnum, with a 2 1/2 Barrel. The Assembly here is configured for the Model 66 "Snubby" which was a bit more scarce configuration, compared to the more common 4 Inch and 6 inch barreled Model 66's. As for compatible models, please note the following information. Model 66-2: EXACT, identical replacement.
DO NOT USE on a Model 66 No Dash or a 66-1 as the length of the Cylinders on the older revolvers was actually Longer (Cylinder had recessed chambers). Although the overall length of the longer, older "Recessed" Cylinder would equal the length of the Non-Recessed Cylinder of the 66-2 once loaded, the issue with installation with an older Cylinder on a Model 66-2 (or vice-versa) arises when attempting to fit the Cylinder into the side of the Frame: The little "Lug" that protrudes out of the side of the Frame of the revolver that holds the back edge of the Cylinder from sliding backwards (when the Cylinder is swung open) is of a different depth on the older revolvers versus the later revolvers. The depth of the Lug changed to accommodate the change of length of the Cylinder between the 66-1 and the 66-2.
If you need further clarification about this, please message us and we'll be happy to elaborate further, but the bottom line is that we advise AGAINST attempting to swap a Non-Recessed Cylinder onto a revolver that originally did have a Recessed Cylinder, and vice-versa. DO NOT USE on Later models, such as the 66-3 and beyond: Changes to the Yoke Retention System resulted in the shape of the Yoke Stud changing, and you would no longer be able to use the Yoke that is supplied with this Assembly. There is very little fouling on the face of the cylinder, and the chambers are bright and shiny.
The springs for the Extractor and the Center pin are strong and responsive, and the Extractor Star mates to the cylinder with accuracy. There is no evidence whatsoever of any rust, pitting or corrosion anywhere on any part of this Assembly. It looks very lightly used, indeed. The Extractor Rod on this Assembly is the SHORT extractor that is designed to match the application of a 2 1/2 Inch Barreled (Snub-Nosed) Model 66...
